Landscape Apprentice
Mission Statement: Sycamore Landscape Design Build (SLDB) exists to design and build timeless outdoor living spaces for families to cherish for generations.
Summary:
A Landscape Apprentice at Sycamore Landscape Design Build has a strong desire to pursue a full-time career in the landscape industry. They are hands-on learners who value hard work, teamwork, and growth through real jobsite experience. Landscape Apprentices support both landscape and masonry crews while learning the foundational skills of outdoor construction, installation, and jobsite organization.
Apprentices at SLDB are attentive, dependable, and optimistic about learning the trade. They show up on time, ready to work, and take pride in doing physically demanding work with a positive attitude. This role is designed for someone who wants to build a career in the landscape industry and develop toward a future specialty path within the company.

Key Skills:
What you will do this every day-
• Lift and move heavy materials, tools, and equipment throughout the work day.
• Shovel, dig, rake, and move soil, sand, stone, and other landscape materials.
• Move and accurately dump heavy, full wheelbarrows.
• Assist with site prep, grading, material staging, cleanup, and general jobsite organization.
• Support bed maintenance, planting, hardscape installation, masonry work, and general construction tasks as directed by the foreman or operations manager.
• Load, unload, and organize tools and materials efficiently on-site and off-site.
• Read a tape measure accurately and begin learning basic layout from schematic plans.
• Listen well, follow direction, and receive constructive feedback with a positive attitude.
• Help keep the job moving by staying engaged, noticing what needs to happen next, and being ready to support the crew.
• Experience operating a skid steer and/or mini excavator is a plus, but not required.
• Some construction or landscape experience is preferred, but not required.
• Valid driver’s license required.
Expectations:
• Proactive and Self-Motivated - In the mornings, on time and helping prepare for the day. On the job, stays focused and on task regardless of duty. Looks to be helpful and works without needing constant reminders.
• Hardworking - This job is not for everyone. It requires lifting, pushing, pulling, digging, and moving heavy objects in all types of conditions and terrain. You are expected to be physically capable of doing the work each day during a typical 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM schedule, and some longer days when needed, with seasonal overtime on Saturdays when needed.
• Ready for the Conditions - This is outdoor work in heat, cold, and rain. Early start times may be required during July and August.
• Positive Attitude - Eager to learn new tasks, listens to instruction, and executes the plan. Looks to be helpful, keeps the job moving forward, and responds positively to work situations and people.
• Dependable - Shows up on time, dressed for the day, and ready to work without reminders.
• Coach-able and Communicative - Follows crew direction well, communicates clearly with the foreman, and gives feedback when asked.
• Jobsite Awareness - Handles site prep, cleanup, material staging, and truck and tool organization without constant prompting. Begins to notice what needs to happen next and contributes to the flow of the project.
Early Success in This Role:
In the first 90 days, a successful Landscape Apprentice will:
• Show up on time, dressed for the day, and ready to work without reminders
• Follow crew direction well and communicate clearly with the foreman
• Handle site prep, cleanup, material staging, and tool organization without constant prompting
• Help keep the job moving by noticing what needs to happen next
• Maintain a positive attitude when the work is hard or conditions are rough
