Landscape Construction Manager
Bayview Garden Nurseries is looking to fill the Manger position in the Landscape Construction division.
CLASSIFICATION PURPOSE
This exempt, supervisory job classification is responsible for overseeing all landscape construction and enhancement projects from start to finish, ensuring work is completed on time, within budget, and to company standards. This position also manages construction crews, estimates projects, collaborates with designers, and maintains strong client communication throughout the build process; performs other work as required.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

- Leads, coaches, and develops construction staff and Foremen;
- promotes safety, quality, professionalism, and company culture;
- conducts hiring, training, performance evaluations, and corrective action;
- ensures employees hold themselves and the team accountable for meeting production and financial targets;
- communicates proactively with clients about project schedules, progress, and challenges;
- conducts walk-throughs, punch lists, and post-construction reviews;
- coordinates with sales, design, and office departments to ensure client expectations are met;
- participates in pre-construction planning and project hand-off meetings;
- reviews specifications, plans, details, and scopes of work;
- develops build sequences, site plans, and production strategies;
- conducts jobsite inspections before, during, and after construction;
- oversees project schedules, daily production, and milestones;
- ensures efficient coordination of subcontractors, trades, materials, and equipment;
- manages multiple installation crews in accordance with company procedures and quality standards;
- solves technical issues on active job sites and ensures proper installation methods;
- operates or supervises operation of construction equipment (e.g., skid steers, excavators, trenchers);
- assists and approves bidding and cost estimating for installation projects;
- prepares take-off reports: counting, pricing, analyzing, and summarizing materials and labor;
- computes cost factors for budgeting, purchasing, planning, and scheduling;
- distributes RFQs and does follow-up with subcontractors and suppliers;
- evaluates cost effectiveness and recommends improvements for estimating procedures;
- ensures job site safety and OSHA compliance;
- leads weekly Construction Division safety tailgate meetings;
- ensures all work meets engineering specifications, timelines, and quality standards;
- follows NJ 811 protocols and ensures proper mark-outs before digging;
- reviews timecards to verify accurate job coding and compliance;
- manages the Construction Division Profit & Loss Statement;
- tracks and reports KPIs including gross profit, labor hours, and production rates;
- ensures accurate job setup, contract billing, and change orders;
- creates and reviews purchase orders, purchasing documents, and project financials;
- coordinates communication between construction teams and office personnel;
- completes required reports, documentation, and project records;
- uses Microsoft Office, BOSS, and standard office software and equipment effectively; and
- provides excellent service (e.g., accurate, complete, and timely) to clients, work-site partners, and Company staff in a courteous and efficient manner.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
An example of the preferred education, training, and/or experience that demonstrates possession of the knowledge, skills, and competencies for this position includes: at least five (5) years of commercial construction, landscaping, and/or hardscape experience similar to that described above.

SPECIAL NOTES, LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS
Pre-employment: Incumbents must sign the Confidentiality, Non-disclosure, and Non-solicitation Agreement prior to their first day on the job.
License: A valid driver’s license, which must be maintained throughout employment in this job classification, is required at the time of appointment.
Language: Though not required, bilingual English and Spanish skills are desirable.
Certifications: Incumbents must attain their OSHA 10-hour certification within their first 90 days of employment and maintain that certification thereafter.
Working Conditions: Work is predominately conducted outdoors with exposure to varying temperatures, weather conditions, noise levels, dust, pesticides, herbicides, grease, oils, dust, fumes, and electrical currents. Work is also conducted in an office environment with associated noise, space, and computer screen exposure.
Background Investigation: Incumbents must have a reputation for honesty and trustworthiness. Misdemeanor and/or felony convictions may be disqualifying depending on type, number, severity, and recency. Prior to appointment, candidates may be subject to a background investigation and/or drug test.
Introductory Period: Incumbents appointed to this job classification serve an introductory period of three months.
